Why is it that music can be so powerful? Is it because to truly be creative or to experience creativity, the listener or performer has to be in a state of ‘no mind’? In a pure state of consciousness which takes you away from the physical reality we live in. I feel that Love, Nature and Music exist on the same levels of ancient spirit and wisdom consciousness. That is to say that to experience love, nature or music you are touching a place inside yourself which is timeless, depthless and can be the ever present healing force amongst humans. Everything that is form, vibrates… and all sound comes from vibrations… all thought forms are vibrations and when expressed through conscious lyrics in songs and music, THAT is a very powerful combination indeed! I encourage you to look for artists out there who are aware of their special place in today’s times, and through that awareness and a kind heart, they are creating songs and music for the greater good of all human beings.
The Healing Power Of Music
•March 29, 2008 • Leave a CommentMusic and sound have been used for thousands of years by ancient civilisations to help heal the body, cure diseases, align the chakras and energy centers in the body, connect with other worlds and spiritual realms and open consciousness.
In my singing workshops I have seen people become energised, centered and uplifted. I believe it’s because as people sing, their “sound energy” flows through and out of their body, it vibrates with in the body as well. So after producing, releasing and listening to such sounds and vibrations as part of a group singing, the body mind and spirit feel rejuvenated and alive.
When we are in an audience seeing a live performance, the same sort of thing applies. As the sounds/music are projected from the performer, we as an audience ‘feel’ this (hence the ‘shivers down the spine’ type of feeling that happens when listening to music sometimes). We ‘feel’ the music because it is made up of vibrations which resonate our bodies and energy centers in and around the body. To me it seems like live music kind of ‘sets things right’ again and I walk out of the show feeling better than when I walked in.
Rhythm is also extremely healing. From ancient tribes in Africa to modern dance/techno music today, it is this sense of ‘flow’ and cyclic manner that our bodies match. I know of people who go to raves and don’t take drugs, because the music is the ‘drug’ itself. Music can produce natural ‘highs’. In my drumming workshops, the ‘left – right’ brain work that drumming requires, entrances the drummer into a state of pure bliss! They forget about the rhythm and are just playing it!
Songs which have uplifting lyrics are also healing because of the connection between the positive lyric and the human psychological response. Songs also that are not directly positive (like the famous John Lennon’s “imagine” song for example) it’s not a positive song as such, but it speaks messages through song which then brings out more positive living through awareness.
All positive (and negative) energy, feeds on itself… it grows… so from performer to audience, audience to the people in their lives, and so on and so on. The flow of positive energy through music & lyrical communication creates healing for the world, I call it the ‘flow on effect’, and that’s a very powerful force that musicians/songwriters can have in this world.

* lol*
“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you’ll never walk alone.”

This below, is a beautiful excercise to practice. I’ve put this in my blog because we all know there is great violence, hate, judgement, fear and distance between human beings on this earth… so, what can we do about it??… anything positive has to be a good thing!… and so when I read and practice this Compassion Excercise it made sense how we can individually and wholey make a difference, with strangers and people we know, especially the people who we may find a challenge.

COMPASSION EXCERCISE
Honesty with yourself leads to compassion for others.
OBJECTIVE: To increase the amount of compassion in the world.
EXPECTED RESULTS: A personal sense of peace.
INSTRUCTIONS: This excercise can be done anywhere that people congregate. It should be done on strangers, unobtrusively, from a distance. Try to do all five steps on the same person.

“Just like me, this person is seeking some happiness for his/her life.”
STEP 2: With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is trying to avoid suffering in his/her life.”
STEP 3: With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person has known sadness, loneliness and despair.”
STEP 4: With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is seeking to fulfill her/her needs.”
STEP 5: With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is learning about life.”
as a peacemaker i will
•March 25, 2008 • Leave a CommentI didn’t write this, but I love it! Imagine if words like these were used in songs more often, and how this may help change the way people view the world and their part in it?
As a peacemaker I will:
See the good in myself and other people – and have the courage to express that.
Regard my own life with gratitude.
Develop peacefulness within my own heart and mind.
Honour the gift of life in all other living beings, without exception.
Practise kindness – regardless of who “deserves” it.
Take responsibility for the effect I have on others.
Protect the vulnerable.
Cultivate kindness.
Refuse violence as a solution to human problems – ever.
Accept difference – even when it challenges me.
Value community and extend my vision of community to embrace all living beings.
Protect the earth. Honour the earth. Cherish the earth and all its living forms.
Learn the value of silence and of thoughtful speech.
Discover and practise the power of forgiveness.
See the unity in all of life.
Live as a source of peace for others, and also for myself.
